Exceeding Expectations! (again)

This week, a customer came in to sell a large 14k necklace that she has had for years. She had previously taken the same item to a well-known heavily advertised competitor for a quote as well. They Paid You What???

Here is a true story that we are passing on from a recent Sell Us Your Gold customer. This customer came into our Gilbert location a week ago, and wanted to receive pricing on her unwanted gold jewelry. After our resident experts tested the items and calculated the pricing based off the market value - we told her the price: $166.00.
The customer was truly astonished - and here's why. She saw a commercial on TV from an un-named (large firm) who encourages customers to mail in their gold. She thought to herself, "Hmm...this looks easy enough." Little did she know that she was in for an epic battle.
She requested one of those gold kits that many of these places advertise - a prepaid envelope sent to your front door. She followed the instructions and sent the very same items that she brought to our store. Her total payout? $11.00.

Are All Coupons Created Equal?

When flipping through your local coupon books, newspapers, mailers, etc., you would have to notice the upswing in the number of gold buyers offering "Bonus Payouts." Many in the industry are creating diversions by saying that they are paying high prices for gold and silver, when in reality they are just quoting in Pennyweight (dwt) versus grams. Remember, there is 1.555 grams per pennyweight, therefore the price per unit of a dealer who works in pennyweight will obviously appear to be higher. An example of this is testing "upward" on your jewelry items. Most jewelry should have a stamp as to what metal has been used. Whether it is 14k, 10k, 18k, or their respective corresponding percentages (585, 417, 750) we are able to identify the metal by the stamp. But in the case of broken jewelry, many buyers will assume that something without a stamp will be a lower karat, i.e. 10k. However at Sell Us Your Gold, we will test the item for 14k and 18k to ensure that you maximize your payout - just as the customer who thought she was bringing in a 14k chain, but received 18k money after our testing.
